Vincent Rouillon

After studying philosophy (Masters degree in esthetics at the Sorbonne in Paris) and music (trumpet, piano, and composition at the Paris Conservatory), Vincent Rouillon has devoted himself to composition since 1985.

He created and directed the Ensemble SIC from 1986 to 1993 and participated in the founding of Parlando, a non-profit organization devoted to promoting artistic activities that involve a connection between words and music.

He is currently completing his doctoral thesis in philosophy at the EHESS social sciences academy in Paris on the topic "The birth of art in Occidental esthetics".

His main preoccupation as a composer is the link between musical sounds and the meaning of words while preserving in each their own individual capacity of

understanding. Therefore his works are becoming more and more focused on various ways of treating text.

These include several types of pieces:

Those incorporating sung texts, works with spoken texts, compositions with both spoken and sung texts, and works for purely instrumental ensembles.
